Structured Design

Structured Design can provide real benefit in assessing and improving your organisational structure. Reengineering fits with the balance of the services we provide because your project-specific activities of engineering and management are an intrinsic part of your organisation's structure and activities. What is the point of undertaking first-class design and project management activities if the manner in which they are implemented is inadequate and results in less-than-expected enterprise performance?

Structured Design assumes your strategic objectives are sound. We may help identify and document these a little but our focus is very much on how you achieve these objectives by looking at what you do, how, why and what you can do to improve your processes effectiveness. You are guided through an organisational learning exploration to understand, plan and reengineer your processes to better deliver on your organisational objectives.

Structured Design will only work with organisations for whom we are convinced that we can add genuine value. We do not simply provide an "all care but no responsibility" service and we have declined as many opportunities as we have accepted. We start with a no cost initial assessment of your organisation that takes a day or two to look at what you do and opportunities for improvement. Note that this is not the same as providing some free consulting to you; we assess your business to ensure we can add value in much the same way as another supplier may perform a credit check to see if you can pay your bills. There is little point entering into a transaction unless both parties are able to provide value to the other. We generally choose to assist where the operations of your business involve the following elements:

  • Intensive use of technology: we understand this in many of its different forms
  • Project/jobbing based organisations: we can best help an organisation that manufactures one-off or low volume truck bodies but would probably not be suited to one that operates a hotel
  • Most importantly, there must be a desire to change: we will not undertake your reengineering project if you are not absolutely committed to making it happen.

A summary of the capability and services provided comprise:

Pre ERP implementation: Getting a concise roadmap of what your organisation is trying to do today as well as where it may want to go tomorrow is a critical to successful ERP implementation. Integrating technology into business processes, for the benefit of customers and the overall organisation, is one of the biggest challenges managers face. Often, the weight of expectation is matched only by the practical, detailed complexity involved in making it happen. Fortunately there are many reputable organisations that sell and implement ERP systems, however their focus is on getting a system established by migrating your existing processes into the new IT infrastructure. What is beyond their scope is to determine whether the structure and systems of your business are effective in delivering value to your clients and therefore your shareholders. Structured Design works with you to review, assess, redesign and enable process improvements that provide the starting point for cost-effective ERP implementation. We have a good relationship with some reputable ERP vendors and can help select the most appropriate vendor/software combination to best meet your needs and liaise with them during the implementation process

Building a business infrastructure for tomorrow is going to add substantially to the bottom line rather than simply rolling what you do today into a new (and often expensive) IT system.

Data management processes: Ensure your processes are adequate to properly manage your technical data. There are some great 3rd party tools available that provide a complete data management capability with project-specific messaging, data access and distribution and revision control.

Organisation reengineering: Understanding who does what to whom, how and why then working with all stakeholders to define and implement change to better match your human capital and processes to your organisation objectives is the defining activity of enterprise performance improvement. We DO NOT drag your business off in some direction that you barely considered before meeting us: the shareholders and management of an enterprise must be responsible for defining the mission and setting objectives, we just help you get there.
